Physical Therapy FAQs
Do I need a doctor’s referral to start physical therapy at Hyphen?
Nope! You don’t need a referral to begin physical therapy with us. Kentucky is a direct access state, which means you can see one of our Doctors of Physical Therapy without waiting for a doctor’s note. If you’re ready to feel better, we’re ready to help you get started.
Do you accept insurance for physical therapy?
We currently accept Medicare Part B for physical therapy services. If you have Medicare B, we’ve got you covered. If not, we still encourage you to Book a Free Consultation and we can discuss options.
What kinds of conditions do you treat?
We help people 60+ overcome all kinds of issues—back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, arthritis, osteoporosis, balance problems, joint replacements, and more. Whether you're recovering from surgery or just tired of feeling stiff and limited, we’re here to help you Close the Gap to living better. You can see our full list of conditions we treat here.
Is physical therapy safe and effective for people my age?
Yes—and not just safe, but powerful. Our team is trained in physical therapy for aging bodies, and we’ve seen it change lives. We reject the idea that it’s all downhill after 60. With the right plan, your body can adapt, get stronger, and help you move with more confidence. #oldNOTweak
What if I’ve already tried PT before and it didn’t work?
We hear this a lot. You’re not alone—and you haven’t failed. Many physical therapy clinics underchallenge people 60+ or don’t give people the 1-on-1 attention they deserve. At Hyphen, we go deeper to find the root cause, build a personalized gameplan, and give you the tools to keep progressing—not just get by.
Can I do both physical therapy and fitness at Hyphen?
Absolutely. In fact, that’s what makes Hyphen different. We’re built to help you move from pain to progress—so your rehab can naturally flow into strength training, group classes, or personal training. Whether you want to garden without pain or hike with grandkids, we’ll help you get there.
How do I get started?
Simple: just Book a Free Consultation. You’ll talk with one of our Physical Therapists who will listen to your goals, assess what’s going on, and help you build a path forward. No pressure, no gimmicks—just expert guidance to help you Close the Gap.
Group Class FAQs
Are your fitness classes really built for people 60+?
Yes—down to every movement, every pace, every word of encouragement. Our classes are designed specifically for active aging, focusing on balance, strength, flexibility, and mobility in a way that’s safe, fun, and energizing. This isn’t “senior aerobics”—it’s movement that matters.
What kinds of classes do you offer?
We offer two types of classes that are split up based on your level. In your Free Consultation, we’ll ask you a few questions that will give us a good idea which class is best for you. Both classes have the same benefits and include balance exercises, flexibility, resistance training, and circuit-style workouts designed to improve strength, energy, and coordination. Whether you're looking for low-impact or ready to sweat, there's a spot for you.
When do you offer classes?
See our Schedule here.
What if I’ve never taken a group class before?
No problem at all. Most of our members hadn’t either when they started. You’ll be welcomed, guided, and supported from your first class and beyond. We modify everything to your level—no one gets left behind, and no one feels out of place.
Do I need special equipment or experience to join?
Nope. Just bring comfortable clothes, a water bottle, and a willingness to try. We provide all equipment, and our coaches guide you through every move with clear instruction and encouragement. You’ll feel confident in no time.
How big are your classes?
Each class is capped at 16 members. So you get the individual attention you need, without the crowd. This ensures your form is right, your pace is safe, and your progress is personal.
What’s the difference between training at Hyphen and a regular gym?
Hyphen was built for people 60+ by Doctors of Physical Therapy who are Specialists in Older Adults. That means classes are designed with expert care—not cookie-cutter plans or high-risk exercises. You’ll get the right workout for you within a community that’s all about helping you be the best version of yourself.
Do you offer personal training too?
Yes! Our Personal Training sessions are designed specifically for people 60+, combining balance, flexibility, and resistance training in a fun, supportive setting.
Do you accept insurance for training or fitness services?
Fitness services, including personal training and group classes, are not covered by insurance. But many of our members use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost. And with our 30-day guarantee, you can try it risk-free.
